Story:
On war-ravaged Cybertron, in the vaults of Iacon, Bluestreak is telling various grisly rumors about the death of Sentinel Prime to an archivist named Optimus. Optimus dismisses the rumors as so much noise, but Bluestreak chides him for his apathy and wonders if the peaceful Autobots could wage war effectively.
Meanwhile, in the state of Altihex, Grimlock is leading a team of Autobots against a Decepticon assault. Unforunately, the Decepticons are slaughtering everyone in sight, and the best the Autobots can do is evacuate before it's destroyed. As the last evacuees board an escape ship, the Autobots watch helplessly as Thundercracker and Skywarp obliterate a tower full of non-allied neutals. Finally, Grimlock leads the Autobots away as Altihex falls.
Later, in the Iacon Chamber of Ancients, Optimus is stunned to learn that the Matrix mainframe has chosen him as the new Prime. Despite Optimus' doubts, the Council insists he take up the role; he is immersed in the Oracle Tank to gain wisdom, but all he manages to do is wonder why the Autobots are fighting -- and dying -- for Cybertron. Would it be easier to abandon the planet and let the Decepticons have it?
While this is happening, Prowl, Grimlock, Jazz, and several other Autobots meet in the charred ruins of the Helix Gardens. Grimlock argues that the time for passive defense is over -- the Autobots need an aggressive leader, one who will unflichingly stand up to the Decepticons. And if the Council chooses a poor leader, then they should seize the title of Prime by force.
Later, back at the Chamber of Ancients, the Autobots are gathered for the appointment of Optimus as the new Autobot Leader. But as Optimus is remade into Optimus Prime by the energies of the Matrix, three Decepticon a |
